A message from the founder of the Summer surf camp " Welcome to Catanduanes Island Summer Surf Camp. My name is Salve Carmela or Posh (as what people fondly calls me). I have been surfing since 2016. In 2019, I visited the island and met my life partner and surf camp partner (Elvis Legaspi — a well-known competitive surfer in the country). Right then and there I decided to stay and build my life with him. Catanduanes is an undisturbed island with uncrowded surf spots, breathtaking hills and beautiful waterfalls and lagoons. We have waves all year round but we especially want to share our summer surf experience because it’s undoubtedly one of the best in the country. April-September will offer long glassy right-handers that are waist-high to head-high at the most. It is safe yet challenging if you want to take your surfing to the next level. This surf camp is a personal project of mine that’s why the prices are lower than most. My goal is not just to share this experience with my fellow surfers but also to offer employment opportunities to the local community especially the surf coaches and tour guides! Hope to see you all here."
Touted as the Happy Island, Catanduanes is the 12th biggest island. There’s no denying that Catanduanes has charmed a lot of locals and tourists, not only with its admirable beaches and genuinely hospitable nature but its delectable dishes too. They are best known to offer an array of fresh seafood to satisfy the hungry pangs after you have spent all day learn to surf. Salve Carmela (Surf trips host) is an amazing cook and can cater for vegan and vegetarians, as well as she had dabbled in this herself. We will not go hungry or thirsty on this piece of paradise, with coconut trees everywhere producing all-natural hydration perfect for hours in the water.
Catanduanes Surf Trips aim is to make all of our guests to get stoked in surfing and all ocean activities. We offer beginner learn to surf to advanced technical coaching to surfers who want to shred and improve their skills. This is one of the lesser-known local spots so there are naturally less crowds. There are currently 4 villas being built all with air conditioning and can house up to 2-3 people. The accommodation that is currently available all has beach views and your own bathroom and are air conditioned. It is not only a surf camp, you get the opportunity to get involved in the local life and at some point, you don’t want to leave this magic place.
Puraran Beach has 2 breaks, there’s the main break called the “Majestic” and there’s a smaller break at the right side which we call “Baluarte”. Majestic can be good for any skill level depending on the forecast, but Baluarte is mainly for beginners who want to learn to surf without the fear factor. March to September is always good for the surf so the weather will be perfect with sunny with a little bit of rain. The waves are always there, this island is blessed with so many surf spots so you won't miss out when you book one of our surf trips. The types of waves can range from it’s astounding long barrel-type surf (best the advanced or fearless surfer) or there are beautiful longboard waves to be had in the smaller swell. You will be in the water with our local surf guides (2:1 ration) to help you make the most out of your time and catch as many waves as possible safely. Puraran Beach is facing straight the Pacific Ocean and the beach has creamy golden sand, clear waves, and colorful coral reefs. Its waves are comparable to Siargao’s, the surfing mecca of the Philippine archipelago which are great for all levels, even beginners.
The surfing area boasts of a magnificent view of mountains, coves and coconut palms as far as the eye can see. Photo enthusiasts could get a perfect view of the sunrise in this area as well as underwater photography with the local turtles and fish posing if you're lucky. For holiday seekers, this is a place for total relaxation, connecting with nature, and living simply whilst being rejuvenated with the complimentary massages (2hr per person included). Relax with beachside bonfires, stargazing, card games, or drinks with the locals and the team on one of our inclusive surf trips.
Splash in waters of incredible clarity beneath which lie sanctuaries of rich and colorful marine life. Its underwater coral formations offer an added adventure for spear fishing and snorkeling. We will also have a chance to join Posh's partner who is one of the well-known spear fishermen and also well-known surfer who has won many competitions in Philippines. He will be able to show you all his secret spots and what is better than fresh seafood that you can cook on the BBQ that you caught with your bare hands (well and a spear gun). You can't get this on many other surf trips.
Enjoy some fun and exhilarating waves (all depends on surf of course) on a tropical paradise island that has not been over developed with tourism yet. There are waves for anyone wanting to learn to surf and size, so if you aren't short boarding then don't stress, as there are beautiful rolling longboarding waves too on our surf trips.
Caramoan Island is a paradise in the farthest coast of Camarines Sur, hidden in underdeveloped and rural soil where white sand beaches, limestone cliffs, beautiful and islets are common scenery. It’s not very famous like Boracay or Palawan, but I would assure you that if you will go you will be amazed! The place is made famous by the hit global reality show “Survivor” and became a favorite shooting location due to numerous islands with fine white sand, lagoons, caves, limestone cliffs and rocks, and rich marine life that give a new definition to an island experience. Travel by local traditional fishing boat to this island paradise (don't forget travel sickness pills if you are prone to sea sickness). Snorkel, swim, or relax on the beach before a Traditional Philipine Island BBQ lunch served by the shore. After lunch, unwind with more snorkeling or simply bask in the island’s beauty under the coconut trees. This is a day not to be missed on the surf trips.
One of the best attractions (other than learn to surf) of Catanduanes’ faultless treasure is the waterfalls. The Nahulugan Falls is a beautifully cascade three-tiered marvel that prides its cool and perfectly clear water encompassed by the island’s delicious green wilderness. Nahulugan is a Filipino word for “a spot where something fell”. Legend says that the falls was named after a man and his carabao (water buffalo) fell while crossing the ridge, out from which waters started to wonderfully cascade in three tiers. Bahaw Hilawan falls is 20-meter-tall plunge-type waterfall so you will enjoy the view when you visit it, however going to this place will take you about an hour of trek.
Discover the natural allure of Binurong Point by immersing yourself in stunning views and an exhilarating hike on this tropical gem when we aren't in the surf. This remarkable destination offers a captivating blend of natural beauty, awe-inspiring landscapes, and a sense of tranquility that will leave you speechless. It is highly recommended to visit at dawn to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the grasslands and rock formations. We will also visit Balacay Point which is one of the tourist spots and best to visit at sunset or sunrise, which is included in our surf trips.
Waves for days with minimal crowds in the surf... what more could you ask for on one of our surf trips!?
