If you plan to bring boards on your surf trip, make sure to confirm airline charges for board bags before you book your airfare on the surf trips. Sometimes the lowest airfare you find won’t have the best policy for board bags and you’ll end up paying more than you expected. The last thing you want to do is get to the airport and find out the airline wants to charge you the price of a new surfboard to check your board bag in. 

Researching details like visa requirements  before the surf trips are in the realm of ‘least fun things to do’ when planning a trip, but necessary, nonetheless. Research visa requirements for your destination in advance so you don't get caught out. This especially applies to trips that are 30 days or longer, but even for short trips, you need to know what’s up. 

With eSIMs, you won't need to search for physical SIM cards anymore after the surf camp and surf trips.  Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or new to surf trips, there’s one constant that everyone has to learn, and that’s how to exchange currency. Personally, I always take Australian money to Bali and change whilst there either at airport as I know it's no commission and safe or at a reputable currency exchange that my driver takes me to. In Philippines, I recommend changing money over before going, as if you are not having long in Manilla then there is only the tiniest airport in Catanduanes Island and you may struggle to get access to currency exchange or ATMS. 

One of the easiest things to forget when traveling internationally is a plug adaptor for your all your tech devices on your surf trips. If you remember at the airport, it’s double the price, and if you forget until your destination you might have to go on a wild goose chase while trying to communicate “adaptor” in a foreign language. Been there, done that. So make sure to research what you need for Asia before you leave home and make sure you don't forget packing it (also done that).
